Rep. Maloney on Sweden Terror Attack

In response to reports of a terror attack in Stockholm, Sweden today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) released the following statement:

“I am deeply saddened by today’s terrorist attack against the people of Sweden.  My thoughts and prayers are with those who lost loved ones and those who were wounded by this heinous action. The United States stands with Sweden and will continue to work with our allies around the globe to fight against terrorism, hate and fear.”

“Bashar al-Assad and his regime are responsible for one of the greatest humanitarian disasters the world has ever seen, for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and the displacement of millions. His use of chemical weapons against his own people is absolutely horrific and the recent attack makes clear his moral depravity. The entire world should condemn these atrocities.

Maloney and Bilirakis Introduce Legislation to Provide Medicare Coverage for Low Vision Devices

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) and Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) reintroduced the Medicare Demonstration of Coverage for Low Vision Devices Act to help Medicare beneficiaries with low vision lead healthy, safe, and independent lives.

This legislation would create a five-year national demonstration project administered by the Department of Health and Human Services to evaluate the economic impact of allowing reimbursement for low vision devices under the Social Security Act which are currently excluded from Medicare coverage.

Reps. Maloney, Quigley, Cicilline Lead Call to Fully Fund National Violent Death Reporting System

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney and Reps. Mike Quigley (D-IL), David Cicilline (D-RI), and 37 other House Democrats called on the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee to fund the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) at a level that supports data collection in all 50 states. Rep. Quigley has offered an appropriations amendment to secure this funding every year for the past three years.

Reps. Maloney and Meehan Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Combat Campus Sexual Assault

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY-12), sponsor of the Campus SaVE Act, and Congressman Pat Meehan (R-PA-7) reintroduced the bipartisan Campus Accountability and Safety Act (CASA) to combat sexual assault on college campuses. Senators Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Dean Heller (R-NV) introduced the Senate companion bill.

Rep. Maloney & Sen. Markey Introduce Legislation During National Public Health Week to Reduce Gun Violence

WASHINGTON, DC  – As community advocates, doctors, elected officials, and public health professionals gather for national public health week, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.) and Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) introduced legislation today to address the issue of gun violence across the United States. The bill would set aside $10 million in funding each year for FY2018-2023 at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct or support research on firearms safety or gun violence prevention.
