House Dems demand rationale for adding citizenship question to 2020 census

Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee are demanding documents from Trump administration officials detailing their rationale for adding a question about citizenship to the 2020 census.

In a letter to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Acting Director of the Census Bureau Ron Jarmin on Wednesday, ranking member Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and five other committee members requested documents before a briefing with the agencies on April 11.

New York Sues Trump Administration Over Citizenship Question

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman formally announced on Tuesday that the state would be suing the Trump administration for adding a citizenship question to the 2020 Census. 

The suit is part of a multistate legal challenge that includes attorneys general from 18 states, six cities and the bipartisan U.S. Conference of Mayors, whom all argue that the question violates the U.S. Constitution and unfairly targets blue states with large immigrant populations. 

NYC Students Speak Up About Gun Violence

NEW YORK--Today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) joined gun violence prevention advocates and New York City students for a listening session on gun safety in schools. The students voiced their concerns and asked a panel of experts questions about how to get involved in the fight against gun violence. The panel included Debbie Weir, Senior Managing Director at Everytown for Gun Safety - Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Shaina Harrison, Program Director at New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, and Council Member Ben Kallos.
