Maloney bill would require background checks for all gun show firearm sales

WASHINGTON — A background check is required when a Federal Firearm Licensee wants to sell firearms at a gun show, but no such requirement exists for private sales. The ATF says that makes gun shows a major trafficking channel for illegal guns. To address this problem, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) has introduced the Gun Show Loophole Closing Act (H.R. 2380).

Maloney hails passage of Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act

WASHINGTON -- Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) today hailed the passage of the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act (S. 178) by an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 420-3. The bill passed the Senate unanimously in April. Maloney was the lead Democratic sponsor of similar legislation of the same name introduced by Congressman Ted Poe (R-TX), which passed the House in January.

Maloney backs Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) today voted in support of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act (H.R. 1191), which passed the House 400-25. The bill requires that Congress be given an opportunity to review any final international agreement on Iran’s nuclear program before the President could waive or suspend any sanctions on Iran that were imposed by Congress. The bipartisan legislation passed the Senate by a vote of 98 to 1 on May 7.

Maloney celebrates last two appointments to National Women’s History Museum Commission

NEW YORK -- Congressional leaders have now appointed all eight members of the National Women’s History Museum Commission and planning can begin on establishing a National Women’s History Museum in our nation’s capital. The commission was established by bipartisan legislation sponsored by Representatives Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN). Maloney praised House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on their appointees to the commission.

Maloney’s Mother’s Day report shows women with children paid less

NEW YORK – In anticipation of Mother’s Day, Joint Economic Committee (JEC) Ranking Democrat Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) released a new report that found the economic security of two-thirds of American families depends upon a mother’s earnings, and that mothers typically contribute about 40 percent to their families’ overall income. The report also found that mothers face a “Mommy Tax,” whereby they are paid 3 percent less than women without children.
