Maloney Supports Homeland Security Bill That Invests in First Responders, Border Security

WASHINGTON – On Friday, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney voted for the comprehensive Fiscal Year 2008 Homeland Security Appropriations bill (H.R. 2638) that provides first responders with additional training and equipment, improves security at our nation’s seaports and airports, and makes border security a top priority.  The bill passed the House, 268-150. 

Today is Deadline for 9/11 Workers to File Notice of Participation in Rescue, Recovery & Clean-Up Operations

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Vito Fossella (R-NY13) and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY14) today reminded firefighters, police officers and other public employees who were involved in the World Trade Center rescue, recovery or clean-up operations immediately following the September 11th attacks that the deadline for filing a Notice of Participation is today, Thursday, June 14, 2007.

Bill Moving Through Congress Would Demand Federal 9/11 Health Plan

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Congressman Vito Fossella (R-NY), Co-Chairs of the Congressional 9/11 Health Caucus, applauded the House Committee on Appropriations for including in the report language for the FY 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education appropriations bill a measure that calls on the Department of Health and Human Services to develop and release within four months a comprehensive, long-term plan to medically monitor everyone exposed to toxins released by the collapse of the World Trade Center towers and treat anyone who is sick as a result.  The Committee also requested that the Department include provisions for “long-term medical care, worker compensation, income security, and disability benefits for affected individuals and liability issues for the city of New York and its contractors.”  Maloney and Fossella have been calling on the federal government for more than a year to release such a plan.

Rep. Maloney Applauds FY08 Census Funding for SIPP and Partnership

WASHINGTON - Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), a long-time champion of the Census and former ranking member on the Government Reform Census Subcommittee, today praised the inclusion of full funding for the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), and funding for the 2010 Census Partnership Program, in the Fiscal Year 2008 Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations bill.  The Bush Administration left the funding for these important Census programs out of its original budget proposal, and Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Alan Mollohan (D-WV) was instrumental in securing this appropriation.

Rep. Maloney: State Dept Human Trafficking Report Shows Some Progress Being Made, More Needs To Be Done

WASHINGTON – Following the U.S. State Department’s release of its 2007 Trafficking in Persons Report (http://www.state.gov/g/tip/rls/tiprpt/2007/index.htm) today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) expressed concern that too many countries still are not doing enough to combat human trafficking.  Maloney is a co-chair of the congressional Human Trafficking Caucus.

Reps. Maloney and Fossella Applaud $50 Million for 9/11 Health in House Appropriations Bill

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Congressman Vito Fossella (R-NY), Co-Chairs of the Congressional 9/11 Health Caucus, applauded the inclusion of $50 million for 9/11 health care and medical monitoring in the House Labor, Health and Human Services and Education appropriations bill for FY 2008.  House Appropriations Committee Chairman Dave Obey (D-WI) and a bipartisan group of Appropriations Committee members from New York -including Nita Lowey, James Walsh, José Serrano, Maurice Hinchey and Steve Israel- helped move the much-needed funding forward.
