OUR TWO SENATORS DELIVER FOR NEW YORK!

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY) recognized the effective work of Senators Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton today, as the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation announced it had included $3 million for the Second Avenue subway, $20 million for the East Side Access project for the Long Island Rail Road, and maintained funding for the Farley Post Office project in the annual Transportation Appropriations bill. The Senate Appropriations Committee will now consider the bill and send a final version to the full Senate for a vote.

MALONEY STATEMENT ON REPORTS OF WHITE HOUSE DEAL WITH SALVATION ARMY

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- "If the report today that the White House is cutting a deal with the Salvation Army is true, then there is reason for grave concern. If it will serve their right wing agenda, the Bush administration will do just about anything, even contradict their signature local control over federal control mantra by overturning local anti-discrimination laws."

MALONEY URGES ELECTORAL REFORM

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A Congressional study released today by members of the House Committee on Government Reform shows that voters in low-income, high-minority districts were, on average, over three times as likely to have their votes for president discarded as were voters in affluent, low-minority districts in the 2000 presidential election.

MALONEY STATEMENT ON NEWLY RELEASED DOCUMENTS ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST

Washington, D.C.: A report released today by the National Archives highlights a recently disclosed document declassified under the Nazi War Crimes Disclosure Act showing that the United States may have learned about the Holocaust earlier than previously had been known. A November 24, 1941 dispatch from the Chilean consul in Prague to the Chilean government, believed to have been intercepted by British intelligence, stated, "The Jewish problem is being partially solved in the (Nazi) Protectorate, as it has been decided to eradicate all the Jews and send some to Poland...The German triumph will leave Europe freed of Semites..." This document appears in the files of the United States Coordinator of Information (COI), a predecessor to the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and the Central Intelligence Agency, by March 20, 1942 - one of the earliest indications in British and U.S. files of the overall Nazi policy toward the Jewish population of Europe.
