RAPE IN NYC & HOW DNA CAN STOP IT

NEW YORK: Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY), together with Barry Scheck, National Legal Expert on the Use of DNA in Criminal Proceedings, and Debbie Smith, crime victim whose attacker was caught through DNA evidence, announced sweeping reform today, outside of Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, for the collection and processing of DNA in sex crime cases.

Maloney joined caregivers, seniors, and members of the American Health Care Association (AHCA) today at the Florence Nightingale Health Care Center in the Upper East Side to draw attention to the long-term care staffing crisis facing New York's nursing homes and to build support for a solution. NYC Will Lose Millions of Dollars Because Just Like Florida the Bush Administration Wants the Count to Stop

NEW YORK, City Hall: Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (Manhattan, Queens) spoke out today, with New York City Public Advocate Mark Green, Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer, and a host of civil rights advocates, calling for federal hearings and an investigation into the Bush administration's refusal to release Census data that could prevent the loss of, at a minimum, $850 million to New York City in federal funding over the next ten years. The group sent this urgent request to Senators in Washington who could investigate the administration's actions immediately.

Federal Study Shows Need For Seawall Repair on Roosevelt Island

NEW YORK, NY - Originally requested in September of 1997, the final Roosevelt Island Seawall Study performed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE), was received this week by the Roosevelt Island Operating Committee (RIOC) and Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY). The study investigated the condition of the seawall that structurally supports Roosevelt Island as well as the non-sea-walled, South-End shoreline of the island. The seawall study states, “While imminent failure is not a concern, an appropriate preventative maintenance program should be undertaken.”

MALONEY SPEAKS TO BREASTFEEDING ADVOCATES IN WASHINGTON

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), author of several bills defending the rights of women who choose to breastfeed, was the keynote speaker at the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) congressional luncheon and briefing. USBC used the event to launch its strategic plan: Breastfeeding In The United States: A National Agenda. The strategic plan is a reflection of the recommendations set forth in the Surgeon General 's document HHS Blueprint for Action on Breastfeeding as well as the Healthy People 2010 breastfeeding goals.
