The Dubai Port Deal: Democrats Call for Hearings in House Financial Services Subcommittee
WASHINGTON, DC - Leading Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee are calling for hearings to examine the deal to give commercial operations control of six major U.S. ports to a company owned by the government of the United Arab Emirates. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Ranking Member on the Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade and Technology Subcommittee (DIMP), and Rep. Rep. Maloney, Beep Stringer, East Side Delegation Hold Town Hall Meeting on Con Edison Site Redevelopment
NEW YORK, NY - Yesterday evening, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney joined Borough President Scott Stringer, State Senators Liz Krueger and Tom Duane, Assemblyman Jonathan Bing, Councilmembers Dan Garodnick, Jessica Lappin and Rosie Mendez, members of Community Board Six and the East Midtown Coalition for Sensible Development and other community leaders at a town hall meeting on the redevelopment of the former Con Edison power plant sites on the East Side of Manhattan. The East Side leaders gathered to demand that the City Planning Commission fully consider the community’s input as it makes crucial rezoning decisions for the area. Maloney and others in attendance encouraged community members to attend a Planning Commission hearing on the issue scheduled for March 28th.

WASHINGTON, DC - As the Los Angeles Times reported this week, the Civil Liberties Oversight Board, created as part of the landmark intelligence reform bill in December 2004, has yet to begin working due to inadequate resources and delays in the appointment and confirmation process. A bipartisan group of 23 Members of Congress - led by Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Christopher Shays (R-CT), Tom Udall (D-NM) and House Homeland Security Committee Ranking Member Bennie Thompson (D-MS) - is urging the president to give the board adequate resources and to support legislation that would give the board more power (view PDF document).
