NEW YORK, NY - Three members of the New York Congressional delegation, Reps. Carolyn B. Maloney, Jerrold Nadler and Edolphus Towns, have reintroduced a bill they originally introduced in the 105th Congress to regulate helicopters in New York City.  The bill, which did not pass the Republican-controlled Congress last session, will give the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) the authority to regulate helicopters in New York City. The city and state governments are powerless to control the noise caused by the city’s helicopters and heliports.

Manton announced today that Community School District #30 in Queens has been selected to receive more than $2 million in funding for FY98 under the Magnet Schools Assistance Program. Over the next three years, the District is slated to receive $6.8 million, subject to Congressional appropriations.

Yesterday, the Democratic members of the House of Representatives Committee on Government Reform and Oversight announced the appointment of Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) as Ranking Democratic Member of the new Subcommittee on the Census. Maloney has been fighting for an accurate count in the 2000 census in an effort to ensure that New York gets fair treatment. The 1990 census undercounted New York State population by 277,000 with 244,00 undercounted in New York City alone.
