WASHINGTON, DC –The House Financial Services Committee today approved and sent to the full House measures which would weaken, delay and derail the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) just weeks before it is scheduled to open its doors. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), senior member of the Committee, denounced Committee passage of the bills.

WASHINGTON-- Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) offered the following statement in response to President Obama's speech on immigration today:
"President Obama spoke today about what’s truly at stake if we do not reform our broken immigration system and reminded us that our nation’s history is rooted in the strength of immigrants.WASHINGTON – Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Barney Frank (D-MA), Louise Slaughter (D-NY), and Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA), today asked the Federal Reserve to conduct a six-month study of the effects of their “ability to pay” rule on stay-at-home spouses bringing to light a concern over the effect it would have on their ability to gain credit.
“President Obama's visit to Ground Zero will hopefully bring comfort to the families who lost loved ones, and bring the attention of the world back to the courage that so many showed on 9/11: the firefighters, police officers, and first responders who answered the call of duty and went into burning towers, never to return; the construction workers and volunteers who came to Ground Zero to help our nation recover; the office workers who risked their lives to lead others to safety.
“I hope the President’s visit will also remind Americans how we came together after the attacks, a unity that impressed itself on the heart of the world and delivered us from some of the most difficult times our nation has ever faced. As the President himself said, when we come together, there’s nothing that we can’t do.”
