“This budget proposal, the very first bill introduced by the new Republican majority, will cost more than 800,000 jobs. Apparently, the Republican leadership is intent on picking up where former President Bush left off.
New York, NY – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) issued the following statement opposing the proposed UN Security Council resolution condemning Israel:
“Rather than working to make a real and lasting peace with Israel through direct negotiations, the Palestinian Authority’s leadership is trying to undermine Israel through international condemnation,” said Maloney.
WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) last night assailed House efforts to slash funding for Planned Parenthood, the “Pence Amendment” which eliminates $75 million in federal aid to the nonprofit group’s 800 family planning and women’s health clinics nationwide. Her statement made on the House floor last night:
"I rise in strong opposition to the Pence amendment, which will eliminate all funding for the many services provided by Planned Parenthood. That's the amendment that is before us, not the other items that other people are talking about.
“This merger exemplifies the globalization of finance and preserves the centrality of New York City to the international financial marketplace. It strengthens the NYSE, preserving its physical trading floor and creating an entity with 55% of its shareholders in the U.S.
WASHINGTON, DC – In the 18th Anniversary month of passage of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) in 1993, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Gerald Connolly (D-VA) and Steny Hoyer (D-MD) today introduced the “Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act” (FEPPLA), H.R. 616, legislation that would provide all federal employees with four weeks of paid parental leave. Federal employees currently must deplete their annual and sick time to take parental leave.
Maloney, along with the lead Democrat on the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee Rep. Sander Levin (D-MI), Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) wrote the Commissioner of the IRS after it was revealed late last year that the IRS had ruled against deductibility of breastfeeding equipment and supplies.
“This is good news for nursing moms, and a welcome recognition of scientific fact by the IRS: breastfeeding has significant health benefits—it helps prevent disease, and is good for moms and for babies,” Maloney said. “Anything we can do to encourage healthy choices is a good thing—and this ruling definitely qualifies!
“This bill would have been a terrible blow to security efforts in New York, the world’s number-one terrorist target. Some members of Congress may not like the U.N. – but that’s not a good enough reason to try to claw back necessary funding for the U.N.’s security budget.
