WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) released the following statement this morning:

"Women Members were extremely angry and disappointed to learn of the agreement to link $1 billion in back dues to the United Nations to restrictions on international family planning and reproductive rights advocacy.

"We have since had extensive discussions with the Administration. Based on these discussions, we believe that in the coming months, the Administration will demonstrate many times over that the positions of a small number of extremist, anti-family planning lawmakers do not represent the commitment of this country to supporting international family planning and a woman's right to choose.

"While many women Members continue to be troubled about the blow to reproductive health that dwells within this spending bill, many of us will reluctantly cast our votes in favor of the final bill based on our faith that the President will do everything within his power to support international family planning and a woman's right to choose."
