Press Release

Following the news that Holocaust survivor and Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel passed away, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) released the following statement:
“With the death of Elie Wiesel, the world has lost a great and righteous man. In a concentration camp in Buchenwald, he experienced the worst that humanity is capable of and emerged from that as a model of the best human kind can aspire to.
"His sense of moral urgency, his commitment to peace, his indefatigable dignity, made an impact on millions of people worldwide and will speak to us for all eternity. His memory will command us to bear witness, speak softly and wrest deeper meaning from our lives, no matter what trials we may face. It was an honor to walk the face of the earth when he was among us.”
