Rep. Maloney Statement on L Train Project Completion
NEW YORK, NY- Following Governor Cuomo’s announcement the L Train tunnel rehabilitation project has concluded, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) issued the following statement celebrating the project’s completion.
“After the severe flooding caused Hurricane Sandy, the Canarsie Tunnel was left in desperate need of repair. I am very pleased that necessary repairs were completed without the full tunnel shutdown, which would have significantly impacted my constituents and small businesses who rely on the L train. With the completion of this project, Cuomo and the MTA have once again proven that New York can complete state of the art infrastructure projects under budget and ahead of time. I am tremendously grateful to the MTA for working tirelessly, even amid a pandemic, to deliver stronger and better service to L train riders.”
- L Train service will resume on both tracks during overnights and weekends starting Monday, April 27th under the MTA Essential Service Plan
- Congresswoman Maloney and her staff frequently met with MTA officials regarding air quality concerns and fiercely advocated for air quality statistics to be released to the public
- Congresswoman Maloney helped secure nearly $700 million in federal funding for L train repair
