Rep. Maloney Statement on California Bar Shooting
New York, NY -- Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12), sponsor of eight gun safety measures introduced in the House of Representatives, released the following statement following the deadly shooting at a bar in Thousand Oaks, California.
"Another community is now suffering the pain, sadness and horror from another mass shooting. When will it be enough for this country to act? To the Thousand Oaks community, the survivors, the victims' families and friends, I am so very sorry. Today, I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
"But, thoughts and prayers are not enough. Every day in this country, 96 people die from gun violence. We have a gun violence epidemic in this country and there are clear actions we can take to stop it. And every day we do not act we put lives at risk.
“Commonsense gun sense gun safety legislation will save lives. There is absolutely no reason, besides fear of the NRA, that Congress has not worked to put an end to this madness. We need to come together and work for the safety of the American people, now. Enough is enough."
