WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), senior member of the House Financial Services Committee and the Joint Economic Committee, issued the following statement upon release of May’s jobs numbers by the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“These numbers are disappointing, and a clear signal that Washington must do more to revive the economy. The momentum gained over the winter brought many more people into the job market to look for work, and they’re just not finding jobs available.

“Yet House Republicans continue to risk making things even worse with a lack of a jobs program, with ideologically-driven austerity budget plans that have been proven in Europe to not succeed, and refusing to bring middle-class tax cuts to a vote. The question for them is, ‘If not now, when?’”
