Press Release

In response to the Trump Administration’s assertion that “[t]here is no emergency” given recent spikes in coronavirus cases across the country, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) released the following statement.

“Mr. Kudlow’s statement that ‘[t]here is no emergency’ in response to recent spikes of reported cases of COVID-19 in cities across the country is completely out of touch with the needs of the American people. This lack of perspective is just more of the same from the Trump Administration when it comes to our country’s response to the COVID-19 crisis. Here in New York, we are thankfully on the road to recovery because we have taken CDC guidance seriously and trust science and our medical professionals – the Administration needs to do the same. The Committee on Oversight and Reform and the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis have heard from health experts that we need to be better prepared for a possible resurgence in the fall and that we need to implement strong and robust testing and tracing programs throughout the country to keep Americans safe and healthy. This moment calls for Presidential leadership, and this Administration has failed to answer that call.”
