NEW YORK, NY – This morning, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) joined Reps. Hakeem Jeffries(NY-8), Nydia M. Velázquez (NY-7), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), Jamaal Bowman (NY-16), and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on the steps of City Hall to speak out on the treacherous insurrection at the U.S. Capitol that took place this past Wednesday and the path forward. The vicious attack on Congress by domestic terrorists was incited and encouraged by Donald Trump.

“On Wednesday, as I sheltered with staff in my office that looks directly across to the Capitol, I was shocked and angrier than I had ever been. A deadly insurrection at the seat of our democracy -- a domestic terror attack -- incited and inspired by the President was taking place right in front of me. Trump is a clear and present danger to our democratic traditions and must be removed from office. Invoking the 25th Amendment is the quickest way to do this, and expedience must be our goal. As Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, I am determined to get to the bottom of the events of January 6th and am coordinating closely with my colleagues on other committees.

“None of this would have been possible without President Trump’s reckless and shameful campaign to undermine the election. For these actions, President Trump must be — and will be — held accountable."
