Rep. Maloney Joins Congressional Hispanic Caucus, House Democrats to Call for Swift Action to Aid Recovery in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) joined her colleagues of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and House Democratic Caucus today to call for swift action to help the Americans suffering in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Island after Hurricane Maria.
“The federal government’s response to the humanitarian crises in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands has been wholly inadequate. Millions of Americans are starved for even the most basic of resources – food, water, medical care – because of the destruction from Hurricane Maria. It is critical that military assets and the Army Corps of Engineers, along with additional FEMA personnel, be deployed immediately to ensure relief supplies are delivered and basic services are restored. While that happens, the House and Senate need to pass legislation as quickly as possible to supplement those efforts. The people of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands should not be waiting for more than week to get the help they so desperately need. Let’s act – now.”
