Rep. Maloney Applauds New Phasing Plan for East River Park
NEW YORK, NY- Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) today applauded the announcement of a new plan for the East Coastal Resiliency project that would phase reconstruction of East River Park.
“As a longtime champion of the East Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) project, I am thrilled that the project is moving forward with the community in mind. It is so important that reconstruction of East River Park be broken down into phases so that we will not lose access to this park during the resiliency project. Lower Manhattan has been particularly vulnerable to extreme storms which are only increasing in frequency and severity as a result of climate change, and I am proud to have secured necessary federal funding for the ESCR project to build a more resilient city and protect residents and infrastructure. I applaud all of my colleagues for fighting to keep East River Park access without compromising essential flood protections for thousands of New Yorkers.”
