Press Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY) recognized the effective work of Senators Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton today, as the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation announced it had included $3 million for the Second Avenue subway, $20 million for the East Side Access project for the Long Island Rail Road, and maintained funding for the Farley Post Office project in the annual Transportation Appropriations bill. The Senate Appropriations Committee will now consider the bill and send a final version to the full Senate for a vote.

Maloney said, "This is absolutely great news for thousands of straphangers riding the jam packed Lex line in stifling summer heat. Senators Schumer and Clinton know how badly we need a Second Ave subway and they delivered big time for New York today. Not only did our Senators get critical funding for the Second Ave subway, they also came through for L.I.R.R. riders with $20 million for East Side Access - $10 million above the House version, and they maintained funding for the important Farley Post Office project. This shows what having two Democratic Senators can do for New York. I know the full New York Congressional delegation will work together to ensure that these funding levels are maintained when the House and Senate meet to finalize this year's Transportation Appropriation bill."
