Maloney: US Women’s National Team Showcases Need for Equal Pay and ERA
Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) today released the following statement congratulating the US Women’s National Team on their record-setting World Cup victory and supporting their fight for equal pay.
“The players of the US Women’s National Team are extraordinary leaders on and off the field. As a mother and an American I am proud that little boys and girls have their example to look to.
“They have used their voices to draw attention to an injustice: the lack of equal pay for equal work. If their performance in this World Cup doesn’t convince you that the system is inadequate and that we need to make change, I don’t know what will.
“We must ratify the Equal Rights Amendment to give women the unalienable Constitutional bedrock to enforce equal pay and the Senate needs to stop dragging its feet and vote for the Paycheck Fairness Act that has already passed the House. When women succeed, America succeeds.”
