Maloney Urges Affected NYC Neighborhoods to Listen to Health Commissioner Mandate and Get Vaccinated
Following the announcement that the NYC Health Commissioner issued a mandate for all those living, working, or residing in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to be vaccinated with the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), who represents parts of Williamsburg, issued the following statement:
“I fully support the Health Commissioner’s decision to issue this order to address this health crisis that we are seeing in Brooklyn and Queens. With more than 285 cases of the measles reported since October, we clearly need to take proactive action against this preventable disease in the interest of public health. I cannot stress enough the importance of getting yourself and your family vaccinated. I’m vaccinated, my kids are vaccinated and I believe everyone who can get vaccinated should get vaccinated. Vaccines are safe and effective and right now it is important that New Yorkers follow this directive to keep their kids and other kids safe and healthy.”
