Maloney to Senate: confirm Lynch as AG
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) today released the following statement calling on Senate Republicans to allow a vote on President Obama’s nominee for Attorney General Loretta Lynch:
“Loretta Lynch would be just the second female Attorney General and the first African American Woman to hold the nation’s highest law enforcement post. She is experienced, highly qualified and ready to go. But her confirmation has been held hostage to Republicans’ demand that Democrats support a controversial abortion provision, which has been needlessly attached to a bill designed to stop human trafficking.
“Loretta Lynch has been forced to wait longer for her confirmation than any Attorney General nominee in the past 30 years. I urge my Republican colleagues to confirm our next Attorney General, and pass a human trafficking bill that sets abortion politics aside.”
