Maloney statement on Paris terrorist attacks
NEW YORK -- Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY-12) today released the following statement in reaction to the terrorist attacks in Paris:
"Today we stand in solidarity with the people of Paris, just as they stood with New York in our time of need just 14 short years ago. In every sense, these murders, like all acts of terrorism, are an attack on us all. Our hearts break for our brothers and sisters in France, and as a nation we will do everything we can to help and bring to justice those responsible for these acts of terror.
"Paris is one of the great cities of the world. It is a icon of western civilization and a cultural beacon. For that reason, it is also a target for terrorists who seek to undo thousands of years of social, economic and political advancement.
"I commend the NYPD for quickly bolstering security at high-profile locations, out of an abundance of caution, in response to yesterday's attacks and for being in contact with its counterparts in Paris and U.S. federal law enforcement and homeland security officials. These attacks remind us of the importance of remaining vigilant and prepared."
