Maloney statement on Commissioner Bratton’s Resignation
NEW YORK—In response to Police Commissioner Bratton’s announcement that he will be stepping down next month, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) released the following statement:
“Commissioner Bratton has been steadfast in his commitment to protecting our City during his tenure as Police Commissioner and I thank him for his service,” said Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney. “Under his leadership, crime in our great city has declined to historic lows, thousands of new officers have been trained to protect our streets, and the NYPD’s technological capabilities have been enhanced. While Commissioner Bratton’s tenure is now coming to an end, he will long be remembered for his dedication to the people of New York.
“Congratulations to Jimmy O’Neill on his appointment to be our next Police Commissioner. Mr. O’Neill has some large shoes to fill, but with his years of experience I am sure he is more than up to the task. He has spent his years in the NYPD building a national model for uniting police officers and the communities they serve to fight crime. I look forward to seeing how he builds upon the legacy left by Commissioner Bratton.”
