WASHINGTON, DC – Following news reports that the Trump Administration intends to introduce a rule change to Title X that would effectively implement a domestic gag rule, modeled on the global gag rule, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) released the following statement:

“As I have said before, the Trump Administration is the most anti-woman administration of my life time and this misogynistic attempt to take away women’s healthcare is more proof of that. The Trump-Pence anti-woman, anti-choice agenda is a direct threat to women’s wellbeing and their right to make decisions about their healthcare, including reproductive healthcare. In New York City, Title X funds have helped an average of 148,000 New Yorkers each year between 2012-2015.

“This is why I joined more than 200 of my colleagues in the House and Senate this week to tell HHS Sec. Azar that we stand firmly against any action that would come between a woman and her doctor. No patient should ever doubt that she is getting truthful and comprehensive counseling from her doctor. No one should be blocked from getting basic care like family planning services. This rule would prevent healthcare providers from talking to and counseling their patients about their right to have an abortion and it must not stand.”
