Maloney Praises State Attorneys General Lawsuit in Support of ERA Certification
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), House sponsor of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), today praised the State Attorneys General of Virginia, Illinois, and Nevada for their lawsuit to compel the Archivist of the United States to certify that the required 38 states have ratified the ERA.
“The American people have spoken; women are due equal treatment under the law, and we are demanding full equality be spelled out in the Constitution. The votes in Virginia, Illinois, and Nevada over the last two and a half years show that there is no timeline or expiration date when it comes to affirming women’s equality in the Constitution.
“I’m grateful to Attorneys General Mark G. Herring of Virginia, Kwame Raoul of Illinois, and Aaron Ford of Nevada for standing up for the people of their states and for the American people in demanding that the ERA be certified.”
