Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) issued this statement in response to the naming of Robert H. Carey to the position of Director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) within the Department of Defense:

“In December, 2008, I sent a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates imploring him to conduct a fair and open hiring process for the next Federal Voting Assistance Program Director. For too many years the FVAP has failed in its mission to help overseas Americans and military voters access the ballot. I am pleased that Secretary Gates has done a thorough search and has selected Mr. Robert Carey to be the next head of the FVAP. I know Mr. Carey and respect his experience with election issues. I believe he will bring fresh ideas and workable solutions to improve ballot access for all Americans living abroad.”
