Unemployment Hits New Record Low, Wages Continue to Rise, and the Economy Created More Jobs in Previous Months Than Originally Thought

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) announced that job creation “roared back” in October, according to CNBC, thanks to the American Rescue Plan she helped pass into law.

“The October jobs report shows continued broad and steady economic improvement. By passing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act last week, Congress will help create millions of jobs, invest in a foundation for strong economic growth, and ensure all communities can compete and succeed in the 21st Century,” said Rep. Maloney.

Background

  • The economy added 531,000 jobs in October and more than 5.6 million jobs have been added since President Biden took office.
  • Unemployment continues to fall, hitting a new record pandemic low of 4.6% nationwide. In fact, unemployment has decreased this year more than any other year in U.S. history.
  • Wages also continue to rise.
  • The economy added 235,000 more jobs in August and September than we first thought.

This news comes as Rep. Maloney helped pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act  last week, which is expected to create millions more jobs in the coming months and years.
