Queens, NY – Today, U.S. Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-Queens, Manhattan) attended the dedication of the new control tower at LaGuardia Airport.
“It’s a new day for LaGuardia now that this tower has been cleared for landing. This $100 million tower is fully paid-for by the federal government and will be a huge boost to the economic competitiveness of our region and the safety of the traveling public,” Maloney said. “As a frequent traveler from this airport, I am among the many who are thrilled that this day is finally here.”

“I welcome the Surgeon General’s Call to Action and look forward to working with my congressional colleagues to enact common-sense reforms that support nursing mothers and their children,” said Maloney. “Breastfeeding is a highly effective way to promote the health of mother and child and this call to action further underscores the easy steps families, communities, policymakers and employers can take to remove the obstacles to breastfeeding many mothers face. I soon plan to reintroduce legislation that would make it easier for nursing mothers to breastfeed.”
WASHINGTON, DC – Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), principal author of the Credit CARD Act, and Louise Slaughter (D-NY), author of the law’s language aimed at curbing abuses aimed at those under 21 years of age, have called on the Federal Reserve to revise its proposed rule implementing the “ability to pay” requirements in the Credit CARD Act, which could curb the availability of credit to stay-at-home moms and other adults without certifiable income.
WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) issued the following statement on today’s release of employment data for December, 2010:
In the 111th Congress, I served as the Chair of the Joint Economic Committee and followed the monthly employment numbers closely. So I am particularly pleased that we ended 2010 on a positive note with a gain of 113,000 private sector jobs---that is 12 straight months of private sector job gains. During 2010, more than 1.3 million private sector positions were added, the most since 2006. In the last three months of 2010, the economy added almost 400,000 jobs.
