Queens, NY – Today, U.S. Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-Queens, Manhattan) attended the dedication of the new control tower at LaGuardia Airport. 

“It’s a new day for LaGuardia now that this tower has been cleared for landing.  This $100 million tower is fully paid-for by the federal government and will be a huge boost to the economic competitiveness of our region and the safety of the traveling public,” Maloney said.  “As a frequent traveler from this airport, I am among the many who are thrilled that this day is finally here.”

WASHINGTON, DC – Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), principal author of the Credit CARD Act, and Louise Slaughter (D-NY), author of the law’s language aimed at curbing abuses aimed at those under 21 years of age, have called on the Federal Reserve to revise its proposed rule implementing the “ability to pay” requirements in the Credit CARD Act, which could curb the availability of credit to stay-at-home moms and other adults without certifiable income.

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) issued the following statement on today’s release of employment data for  December, 2010:

In the 111th Congress, I served as the Chair of the Joint Economic Committee and followed the monthly employment numbers closely.  So I am particularly pleased that we ended 2010 on a positive note with a gain of 113,000 private sector jobs---that is 12 straight months of private sector job gains.  During 2010, more than 1.3 million private sector positions were added, the most since 2006.  In the last three months of 2010, the economy added almost 400,000 jobs.

Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), authors of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, paid tribute to the late James Zadroga, an NYPD Detective, a hero 9/11 rescuer, and the namesake of the recently-passed legislation to address the health crisis caused by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.  Detective Zadroga passed away after a long battle with 9/11-related illnesses on January 5, 2006.

Washington, D.C. – Today, President Obama signed into law legislation authored by New York Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), and Peter King (R-NY) to address the health crisis caused by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.  H.R. 847, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, provides health care for those exposed to toxins released by the collapse of the World Trade Center towers.  The bill also reopens the federal Victim Compensation Fund to provide economic relief to those harmed by the attacks.
