WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) has reintroduced the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act, H.R.812, that requires institutions of higher education to develop and communicate their policies on dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and domestic violence and increases reporting requirements of these incidents. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) introduced the bill in the Senate (S. 128).
NEW YORK, NY – At a press conference at Weill Cornell Medical College today, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney joined Weill Cornell Dean Dr. Laurie Glimcher, State Senator Liz Krueger, Assembly Member Micah Kellner, City Council Member Jessica Lappin, and Weill Cornell researchers, students and patients to decry the harmful impact of federal budget sequestration on medical research (see photo, attached; caption below). The legislators urged Congress to act before Friday, March 1, the deadline to trigger sequestration, which will impose $85 billion in automatic spending cuts on the federal budget, with a disproportionate share of the cuts being inflicted on federal funding for medical research supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal agencies.

Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Representatives Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Frank Pallone (D-NJ), and Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) reintroduced legislation in both the Senate and House to allow certain Indonesian refugees to reopen claims for asylum. Many Indonesian Christians who fled their native country to avoid religious persecution are now faced with deportation after years of living, working, and paying taxes in the U.S. The legislation introduced today would provide a legal avenue for these individuals to reapply for asylum in the U.S.
