Update: Upcoming Impeachment Town Hall & Fighting for Public Housing
I always look forward to District Work Periods because they give me time to spend more than just a weekend back here in NY, which means I have more time to connect with each of you, the constituents of NY-12.
This week, I joined with Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez and other NYC elected officials to announce a new bill to support and make better public housing. And my Congressional Youth Cabinet convened for its first meeting of the year.
And next Thursday, October 10, I am hosting a town hall on impeachment in Brooklyn. I hope you’ll join us.
Standing Up For Public Housing
Public housing in New York, and across the country, is in crisis. There is not nearly enough public housing available for everyone who needs it, and the public housing we do have is horribly under-funded with conditions that pose significant health hazards to residents. On Wednesday, I joined Rep. Nydia Velázquez, elected officials, advocates and public housing tenants to voice my support for the Public Housing Emergency Response Act.
I’m proud to be an original cosponsor of this critical legislation which would provide the $70 billion necessary to pay for the entire capital backlog for every public housing authority in the country. We cannot turn our backs on the 1.2 million households who depend on public housing that is safe and well-maintained. We need bold legislation that is willing to combat this crisis head on and improve the quality of life for every public housing resident in the country — and especially here in New York.
Congressional Youth Cabinet
On Saturday, my Congressional Youth Cabinet met for the first time this school year. CYC empowers students across our district to get involved in the politics that affect them every day. I can’t wait to continue our conversations and get to know these future leaders! To learn more about the program, visit my website here.
You’re Invited: Impeachment Town Hall
On Thursday, October 10, I am hosting a town hall on impeachment with special guest former Congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman. We’ll be discussing what impeachment means, next steps, and Rep. Holtzman’s experience during the Nixon impeachment. I hope you can join us at 6:30pm at the Bushwick Inlet Park Community Room. More information on the event here.
As always, your concerns still and always will remain my top priority. Please do not hesitate to email me through my website.
