Healthcare Update: Open Enrollment, 116th Congress & Flu Shots
I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season. While there is much happening right now in Washington, DC as we prepare for a new Congress come January, I wanted to remind you that open enrollment for healthcare coverage is happening now for those who get their healthcare through the individual marketplace. You can compare plans and find out if you are eligible for financial assistance at nystateofhealth.ny.gov. Open enrollment in New York closes on January 31, 2019. To ensure that your coverage starts by January 1, you should sign up by December 15. If you need any additional help, please call my Manhattan office at 212-860-0606. We want to make sure you are getting the best coverage for you and your families.
From the first days of the Trump Administration, the President and Congressional Republicans have consistently tried to dismantle, sabotage and outright repeal the Affordable Care Act and I have stood strong against them each and every time. As we look forward to the 116th Congress, rest assured that my commitment to protecting the ACA’s critical protections and programs and expanding affordable coverage to every American remains firm.
Specifically, I will work to make sure we never return to the days when Americans with pre-existing conditions were denied coverage, to expand affordable health care coverage and to boost funding for the Prevention and Public Health fund. This fund helps keep down long term health care costs and saves lives by investing in public health efforts to prevent avoidable illnesses. It invests millions of dollars in state and local immunization programs to expand and increase vaccination coverage, which is absolutely essential in combatting preventable diseases, in new screening and prevention programs for diabetes, heart disease, and more, and in many other critical public health programs. It’s time for a Congress that once again fights to improve health care, instead of one that rips it away from millions of Americans and I can’t wait to get to work on that.
If there is anything else that I can do to assist you or your family with a federal matter, please don’t hesitate to contact me at one of the phone numbers below or send me a message here.
Carolyn B. Maloney
Member of Congress
