The successful bill raises USAID funding to $425 million, up from $385 million last year, and removes anti-democratic Gag Rule restrictions. WASHINGTON D.C. - On Friday, June 23, the House of Representatives voted down an amendment that included significant cuts in the Census Bureau's budget after Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D - Manhattan, Queens) led opposition to it. The amendment, which was introduced by Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC), failed by a vote of 145-223.
