WASHINGTON, DC - Protecting the health of women, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens) introduced H.R. 360, The Robin Danielson Act today. The bill directs the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct research to determine the extent to which the presence of dioxin, synthetic fibers, and other additives in tampons and related products pose any health risks to women. The legislation also asks the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to collect and report information on Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS).
NEW YORK, NY - After reading in the Wall Street Journal today that President Bush has promised House Republicans that his administration will block the use of corrected Census numbers in configuring congressional districts throughout the country, Census Subcommittee Ranking Member Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) released the following statement:
WASHINGTON, D.C. - This weekend, Ranking Member of the Census Subcommittee, U.S. Rep Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), took advantage of President Bush's visit to the Democratic Congressional working retreat in Farmington, PA by asking the President whether he would make a commitment not to interfere with the use of more accurate, modern scientific methods in the upcoming census. President Bush responded, as did his Commerce Secretary-Designee Don Evans many weeks ago, by stating that he needed more information about the Census before he could answer Maloney's question.
Long Island City, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Carlolyn B. Maloney visited P.S. 17 - The Henry David Thoreau School - in Long Island City today, to amplify the importance of technology in the classroom. P.S. 17 recently received a grant of $7,000 from Verizon for computers, hardware, software, scanners, and printers to expand a program that incorporates online computer research into the educational activities of the students in the K through 5th grade school.
