The bill to make the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund permanent passed the Senate by a vote of 97 to 2. Earlier this month, the bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 402-12, and it will now go to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the lead sponsors the bipartisan Never Forget the Heroes Act (H.R. 1327/S. 546) announced that the bill will be renamed as the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act. This action by Congressmembers Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), Jerry Nadler (D-NY), and Peter King (R-NY) and Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) honors these brave first responders who not only answered the call on 9/11/2001 and in the weeks and months afterwards, but also came to exemplify the fight for permanent healthcare and compensation for the 9/11 community. The amendment to make this change will be introduced as the bill comes to the House floor.
