NYC members of Congress react to Kavanaugh hearing: 'In awe of Dr. Ford's poise'
New York City-area members of Congress took to Twiiter Thursday to express their support for Christine Blasey Ford -- who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault -- and share their thoughts on Thursday's hearing.
"Dr. Ford’s credibility increases with every word she speaks," tweeted Rep. Carolyn Maloney, a Democrat who represents parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
In another tweet, Maloney wrote "Today, I stand with Dr. Ford and all survivors. I’m going to the hearing to support her in person. #BelieveWomen. #StopKanavaugh."
Maloney was in Washington at the hearing, and was spotted with actress Alyssa Milano, who was also attending the hearing.
Rep. Joe Crowley, a Democrat who represents the 14th Congressional District which includes parts of Queens and the Bronx, tweeted, "Thank you, Dr. Blasey Ford, for your tremendous courage today. The Senate should not move forward with this nomination until this and further allegations are extensively investigated. #BelieveWomen."
Dr. Kathleen Rice, a Democrat who represents parts of Long Island's Nassau County, tweeted that she was "in awe of Dr. Ford's poise and courage. By coming forward and testifying today, she is standing up for survivors everywhere. We owe her a debt of gratitude.”
Rep. Jerry Nadler, a Democrat who represents parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn, tweeted, "I want to thank Dr. Ford for her bravery and courage in telling her story to the @senjudiciary. Women must be heard, and their accusations taken seriously. There should be no confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh without a complete investigation."
And ahead of the hearing, Rep. Grace Meng, who represents parts of Queens, tweeted, "Hope the process will be conducted in a manner that is respectful to Dr. Ford & set an example of how to support victims & survivors of sexual assault & misconduct.”
