WASHINGTON, DC - The Rules Committee will allow an up or down vote today on reform legislation endorsed by the 9/11 Commission during consideration of H.R. 10. The following is Congressman Christopher Shays’ (R-CT) and Carolyn Maloney’s (D-NY) reaction to this latest development.
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Representatives Christopher Shays (R-CT) and Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Co-Chairs of the 9/11 Commission Caucus, are asking the House Rules Committee to make in order an amendment to H.R. 10 in the nature of a substitute when H.R. 10 is considered on the House floor later this week. The bill is a combination of the Collins-Lieberman bill and the McCain-Lieberman bill, making it a comprehensive piece of legislation which mirrors the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations. The legislation has been endorsed by the 9/11 Commission and 9/11 Family Steering Committee.

Maloney (NY-14) applauded the Senate Judiciary Committee for passing S. 1700, the “Advancing Justice Through DNA Technology Act of 2003” out of committee. The legislation, which will bring long overdue justice to rape victims and their families, passed the House of Representatives overwhelmingly on November 5, 2003, 357-67.
