Representatives Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12), Keith Ellison (MN-5), Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8), and Bill Foster (IL-11) were joined today by leaders of key consumer groups, including Americans for Financial Reform, U.S. PIRG, and Center for Responsible Lending, as they called on the House to crackdown on unfair overdraft fees by passing H.R. 3606, the Overdraft Protection Act of 2017. Unfair overdraft fees cost consumers $15 billion every year, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. H.R. 3606 would limit financial institutions’ ability to trap consumers in hard-to-understand, costly overdraft protection programs and fees.
