WASHINGTON, DC - Bipartisan legislation reintroduced in Congress would help federal workers care for new additions to their families. Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY); Tom Davis (R-VA), chairman of the House Government Reform Committee; and Steny Hoyer (D-MD), House Minority Whip, have sponsored the Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act (H.R. 5148), which would give civil servants six weeks of paid leave for the birth of a child or an adoption. Currently, federal workers have to use annual leave and sick leave to care for their newborns.

QUEENS, NY - Today, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Congressman Anthony Weiner expressed their strong support for legislation that would require the Department of Homeland Security to inspect all cargo before it is transported on passenger planes. While twenty-two percent of air cargo in the U.S. is carried on passenger planes, currently almost none of that cargo is inspected for explosives or other dangerous materials prior to being loaded onboard.

MMS’s new program, which was initiated in 2001, focuses on compliance reviews of company royalty reports rather than full audits conducted under U.S. Government Auditing Standards. Compliance desk reviews are also being used for collecting royalties owed federal taxpayers and State governments.
