Oversight and Government Reform
Since coming to Congress in 1992, Carolyn Maloney has served on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the main investigative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. This committee has jurisdiction to investigate any federal program and any matter with federal policy implications. Congresswoman Maloney also sits on the Government Operations subcommittee and previously served on the National Security Subcommittee and as the ranking member of the Subcommittee on the Census.
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney supports strong oversight and management of federal programs and taxpayer dollars. She has continuously fought to curtail gun trafficking, support the mission of the Census Bureau, reform the system that allowed private companies to underpay for oil extracted on federal lands, prevent further erosion of reproductive choice for women in America, and ensure the postal service remains solvent and continues its presence in our communities.

WASHINGTON, DC – An amendment sponsored by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) to require a study to improve the measurement of oil and natural gas extracted from leased federal and Tribal lands was attached to the Consolidated Land, Energy, and Aquatic Resources (CLEAR) Act, H.R. 3534, comprehensive legislation that will provide greater efficiency and accountability to the management and regulation of energy resources to be considered by the full House today.
I rise in strong support of HR 5481, granting Subpoena Power to the Commission Investigating the BP Oil Spill. Last month, President Obama established the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling, a panel that will be vital to investigating the disaster and assuring this does not happen again. However, this Commission does not have subpoena power, something critical to ensuring the full disclosure of evidence and witnesses.
WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), senior member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, greeted with concern today’s release of a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on oil and gas leases on federal lands.
Washington DC –Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Congressman Michael Honda (D-CA) authored an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, H.R. 2647, which would create an Overseas Voting Advisory Board to assist the Department of Defense’s Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP), the lead agency empowered to assist overseas voters, whether military or civilian.
