Presidential Inauguration Ticket Requests
The swearing-in of a new President and Vice President of the United States represents an inspiring time of national revitalization and celebration of the democratic process.
The President and Vice President of the United States will be sworn into office during the 59th Presidential Inauguration on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. This inauguration ceremony will be held on the west front of the U.S. Capitol and managed by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC).
This year’s ceremony will be uniquely affected by the current public health crisis, and we will share more information as it becomes available. Please carefully read the following information in order to register your interest in attending the 59th Presidential Inauguration.
If you are a constituent of the 12th district of New York and would like to request tickets to the presidential inauguration, please follow these steps:
- Read the Important Information section of this page thoroughly.
- Please email NY12InaugurationTickets@mail.house.gov with your first and last name, full address, number of tickets being requested including for children, and contact information including email address and phone number.*
- Continue to monitor the email address you provided for further information and questions from the congresswoman’s office.
*You can request a maximum of 8 tickets. We will only be accepting 1 request per household.
- Tickets are limited and it is possible that they will not be distributed through Members of Congress. The system for ticket distribution will be determined based on the requests, tickets, and other logistical concerns, and will most likely be a lottery system.
- All ticket requests must be submitted by January 1st, 2021.
- Ticket requests from non-constituents will not be considered.
- Ticket requests that do not include all requested information may not be answered.
- In previous presidential inaugurations, there has been a large section on the National Mall (past 4th Street) that will be accessible to the general public, if you do not receive tickets. Please note that the COVID-19 public health crisis may significantly impact this. We will share more information as it becomes available.
- The JCCIC will not inform Members of Congress what/how many viewing area tickets they will be provided until a few weeks after the presidential election, and this year’s ticket process may be further delayed in order to reflect the status of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Office of Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney will not grant requests for inauguration tickets until the JCCIC has made its announcement to Members of Congress regarding what the Members will be getting.
- Coronavirus restrictions in Washington, D.C. are determined by the government of the District of Columbia. Please monitor coronavirus.dc.gov for the most up-to-date information on health and safety requirements for visitors.
- Accessibility services are provided in each ticketed section, and upon entering the section will be available by request to the Accessibility Services Representative.
- Pack your patience.
- Security measures will be in place and taken very seriously. Be prepared to go through layers of safety measures, including metal detectors and bag checks. Security requires ticket holders to arrive hours early, carrying no seats or large bags.
- Transportation options will be limited. Due to street closures around the Capitol grounds and massive crowds using public transit, be prepared to walk several blocks and to wait in long lines.
- Washington winters are cold – please be prepared. Temperatures on January 20 in Washington have run from an average low of 28°F to an average high of 43°F.
- The JCCIC often does not make final decisions on the ticket process until several weeks following the presidential election. Ticket requesters are required to contingency-plan their own transportation and accommodations accordingly.
Other Inaugural Events
Members of Congress only handle the distribution of tickets to the official swearing-in ceremony at the U.S. Capitol. Tickets to all other events must be requested through the respective organizations.
- Applications for participation in the 2021 Inaugural Parade can be found here.
- The official parade and inaugural balls will be organized by the Presidential Inaugural Committee, a non-profit organization which will be created shortly after the presidential election.
- Please note that the COVID-19 public health crisis may significantly impact the format of traditional inaugural events. It is highly recommended that you check with event organizers before purchasing travel or accommodation.
