Reps. Maloney, Capito, & Slaughter hail new rules easing stay-at-home spouses’ ability to qualify for new credit cards

WASHINGTON, DC –  Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Chair of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), principal author of the Credit CARD Act and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee, and Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Rules, today applauded implementation of a rule by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) that will make it easier for stay-at-home spouses and partners to obtain credit cards in their own name under the provisions of the CARD Act.

Reps. Maloney, Waxman & House Democrats urge AG Holder to uphold emergency contraception decision

WASHINGTON, DC –  Reps. Carolyn B. Maloney [NY-12], Henry Waxman [CA-33] and 35 other House Democrats sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder asking him to not appeal the Federal Court’s decision in Tummino v. Hamburg which overturned a directive from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to require a prescription for those under 16 years old seeking “Plan B” contraception, popularly known as “the morning-after pill.”
 

Rep. Maloney decries cancellation of New York City’s Fleet Week

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) decried today’s cancellation of New York City’s annual Fleet Week observance in May.

“Today’s announcement will mean many disappointed Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen and many more disappointed New Yorkers. For almost three decades, the thousands of service members who flood New York’s streets—and the demonstrations and tours onboard the ships—have become one of the great Spring traditions in New York and an important part of New York City’s tourism,” Maloney said.
 

Maloney applauds major milestones in construction of 2nd Avenue Subway

NEW YORK, NY, April 23, 2013 – Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) hailed the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) announcement that the “muck houses” on Second Avenue at 72nd and 69th Streets will be removed now that all blasting has been completed and the debris has largely been cleared.  In addition, the MTA has issued its final set of Requests for Proposals for the first phase of the Second Avenue Subway.

Reps. Maloney, Nadler & King statement on study showing 15% increased cancer rates among 9/11 first responders

WASHINGTON, DC –  Reps. Carolyn B. Maloney [D-NY], Jerrold Nadler [D-NY]  and Peter King [R-NY] issued the following statement after publication today of a study of almost 21,000 first responders by the World Trade Center Health Program which shows a 15 percent increased incidence of thyroid, prostate, blood, lymph and soft tissue cancers among first responders in the first seven years after the 9/11 attacks, when compared to a control group.
