Rep. Maloney Applauds New Homeland Security Grant Guidelines

New York, NY – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) today issued the following statement on the release of new standards for Homeland Security grants by the Department of Homeland Security:
“I am very pleased by Secretary Napolitano’s announcement today that New York City and other cities at the highest risk of terrorist attack will continue to receive the funding they need despite budget cuts.  As Mayor Bloomberg and my New York congressional colleagues—of both parties—and I have long argued, New York continues to be a target and we should receive funding proportionate to the threat we’re facing.  The change announced today reflects that reality.”

Maloney hails start of process to simplify mortgage disclosure forms by CFPB

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, today hailed the start of a process by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to harmonize and streamline mortgage disclosure forms required under the Truth in Lending Act and the Real Estate Settlement and Procedures Act.

WASHINGTON, DC –The House Financial Services Committee today approved and sent to the full House measures which would weaken, delay and derail the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) just weeks before it is scheduled to open its doors. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), senior member of the Committee, denounced Committee passage of the bills.

Statement of U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney on the 63rd Anniversary of the Israeli Declaration of Independence

“I am thrilled to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the Israeli Declaration of Independence, on the day before the British Mandate of Palestine was due to expire.  Born out of the ashes of World War II, Israel was founded as a homeland for the Jewish people.  Immediately following its creation, Israel served as a haven for European Jews who had survived the Holocaust and Middle Eastern Jews who were fleeing repressive anti-semitic regimes. Since then, Israel has welcomed displaced populations from Eastern Europe and Africa.  Much like America, Israel is adept at welcoming immigrants and assimilating people from different cultures. 

Maloney Hails Federal Grant to Ease Amtrak Delays in NYC, Spur High-Speed Rail in NE Corridor

New York, NY – U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens) hailed a $294.7 million federal high-speed rail grant announced today by the U.S. Department of Transportation to make improvements to Harold Interlocking, a portion of the Sunnyside Rail Yards through which Amtrak trains must pass on their way to and from Boston.  The Harold Interlocking junction is located in Maloney’s Congressional district and the Congresswoman has been a strong supporter of this grant, for which Governor Andrew Cuomo and MTA Chairman Jay Walder applied in April.  A copy of a letter Maloney sent to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood in support of the grant follows.

Maloney, Frank, Slaughter, Fitzpatrick call on Federal Reserve to study impact of credit card “ability to pay” rules on stay-at-home spouses

WASHINGTON – Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Barney Frank (D-MA), Louise Slaughter (D-NY), and Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA), today asked the Federal Reserve to conduct a six-month study of the effects of their “ability to pay” rule on stay-at-home spouses bringing to light a concern over the effect it would have on their ability to gain credit.
 

Reps. Maloney and Ackerman, Sen. Menendez Reintroduce Simon Wiesenthal Holocaust Education Act

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY), and Senator Robert Menendez have reintroduced the “Simon Wiesenthal Holocaust Education Act” (H.R. 1753) which would help increase awareness of the Holocaust by boosting programs and institutions that teach about the Holocaust and its lessons.

Maloney Calls on FTA to Maintain Funding Levels for Second Avenue Subway and East Side Access

New York, NY – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney today called on Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff to preserve the funding originally proposed for the nation’s two largest New Starts projects - the Second Avenue Subway and East Side Access, calling them “vital to the New York City region's $1.26 trillion economy, the second-largest regional economy in the world.”
