Elected Officials, East Siders Rally Against East River Garbage Station, Citing Threats to Public Safety & Environment

New York, NY - Today, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney; State Senator Liz Krueger; NYS Assembly Members Micah Kellner and Dan Quart; City Council Member Jessica Lappin; Residents for Sane Trash Solutions; tenants from the Stanley Isaacs Houses and John Haynes Holmes Towers public housing developments; supporters of the Asphalt Green recreational facility; members of the Gracie Point Community Council; and other local leaders and residents joined to reiterate their strong opposition to the City's effort to construct a massive garbage marine transfer station (MTS) on the East River waterfront at East 91st Street.

Rep. Maloney introduces bill to help eliminate uncertainty in absentee ballot process for Americans abroad

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) introduced legislation, H.R. 5828,  with Reps. Charles Gonzalez (D-TX) and Michael Honda (D-CA), which would help eliminate uncertainty for military and overseas voters when they request an absentee ballot this year that they will get ballots for each of the elections for the complete general election cycle when voting absentee.

On Mother’s Day weekend, Rep. Carolyn Maloney joins Congressional delegation to Afghanistan

Washington, DC – Over Mother’s Day weekend, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney visited members of the United States armed forces serving in Afghanistan, joining a bipartisan congressional delegation that also included House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and U.S. Representatives Anna Eshoo (D-CA), Jean Schmidt (R-OH) and Terri Sewell (D-AL).  The lawmakers met with troops in the field and participated in important discussions with American and Afghan government and military officials as well as with Afghan women leaders and organizations. On the trip, they visited Helmand and Kandahar provinces, two of the most war-torn areas in the current conflict in Afghanistan, and yesterday traveled to Kabul, the nation’s capital. It was the first congressional delegation to visit Afghanistan since the historic Strategic Partnership Agreement signed by President Barack Obama and Afghan President Hamid Karzai on May 1, 2012.

Reps. Maloney, Bilirakis introduce resolution urging FYROM to resolve name dispute

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues, introduced H.Res. 650, a resolution that urges the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to work within the framework of the United Nations process with Greece to achieve longstanding United States and United Nations policy goals of resolving the name dispute and encourages the United States to work with its NATO allies to uphold previous NATO Summits decisions, with regard to the enlargement issue.

Rep. Maloney statement on defunding of the American Community Survey

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), former ranking member of the Census subcommittee, offered the following comment after the House voted to de-fund the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (Roll Call #232:  232 - 190) :   “The Republicans have earned a reputation as the ‘do-nothing party’ and now they want to also be the ‘know-nothing party’. This vote repeals the work done by Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama and six Congresses to modernize the Census, and does so without even a hearing or full debate.”
