Rep. Maloney's Statement on New York State's Marriage Equality Law

NEW YORK, NY – Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan & Queens) released the following statement on yesterday’s passage and signing into law of marriage equality in New York State:

“The Empire State’s marriage equality law marks a huge advance for fundamental civil rights, and I have never been prouder to be a New Yorker than I am right now.

“It marks a great victory for the principle of equality under the law,
and for simple human decency: all adults in New York will now be able to
marry the person they love.

“One of the founding bedrocks of our great nation was that every
American should be able to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of
happiness.  New York’s marriage equality law proudly and patriotically
reaffirms that ideal.”
