Rep. Maloney statement on January jobs numbers
WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), senior member of the Joint Economic Committee, issued the following statement upon release of January jobs numbers by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:
“News that the unemployment rate fell further, to 8.3%, and 243,000 jobs were gained in January is heartening news. It marks the 23rd month that jobs have been added to the economy and the fifth month that the unemployment rate has dropped, which shows that we are making steady progress in recovering from the Great Recession.
“Still, we have more to do—including extending the payroll tax cut holiday for all of 2012. I’m hopeful the house will approve that before the current extension expires at the end of this month.”
