May 4, 2010 Issues: Homeland Security

New York, NY – Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens) issued the following statement on the capture of the suspect in the failed Times Square bombing:

“The capture of the Times Square bomb suspect was the result of an extraordinary, coordinated, and swift effort by New York and national law enforcement – truly the work of heroes,” said Rep. Maloney. “Commissioner Kelly, the NYPD, the FBI, and the Joint Terrorist Task Force all did an incredible job in apprehending this suspect quickly and preventing him from fleeing the country. “The NYPD officers who responded so quickly to the bomb attempt and the alert New Yorkers who notified the police and helped avert a disaster also deserve our applause. I was in Times Square on Saturday night, and along with the thousands of people who were there that evening, I am profoundly grateful for their service to our city and nation. They are a reminder to all of us that when you ‘see something, say something.’”
