Rep. Maloney on East Midtown Explosion

New York, NY – Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens) issued the following statement on yesterday’s steam pipe explosion in east Midtown:

“Yesterday’s explosion was a terrifying experience, especially for those who live and work in east Midtown or who just happened to be nearby.  I was deeply saddened to learn that a woman died following the blast; my thoughts and prayers are with her family and with the dozens of New Yorkers who were injured.

“Even in the chaos immediately following the explosion, New Yorkers came together to aid and care for one another, as we always do in times of crisis.  The explosion reminded many of 9/11, but it should also remind us that it is the people of New York that make ours the greatest city in the world.

“In the coming days, I and my fellow elected officials will be working on ways to help businesses and residents affected by the disaster.  I encourage anyone who needs help to contact my office.”

Congresswoman Maloney represents the 14th Congressional District of New York, which includes east Midtown.
