WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), senior member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hailed Rep. Issa’s support—stated at this morning’s hearing of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee on “Fast and Furious”—for an up-or-down Senate vote on the confirmation of President Obama’s nominee to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATFE) at the Department of Justice.

“I appreciate Chairman Issa’s support for a confirmation vote stated at the hearing today, and urge the Senate to schedule such a vote as soon as possible,” Maloney said. “Having leadership in place at ATFE will go a long way toward preventing another episode like Fast and Furious.

“Andrew Traver, who heads the Chicago Field Division office of ATFE, was nominated by the President in November, 2010, and it is beyond time for him to be able to get to work in this crucial post.

“In the war to get guns off our streets, it’s imperative to have a general leading those battles. The Senate minority’s continued obstructionism in refusing to confirm him is, quite simply, costing lives.”
